The Modern Pottery Production of Sagalassos – Çanakli Region in Light of the Anatolian Tradition
Serap ÜNAL*

Finds of pottery provide us with much information on the ancient societies, civilizations and settlements in Anatolia over the past thousands of years. The Anatolian tradition of local pottery, as practised in regions such as Göller Bölgesi (The Lake District), beginning with Hacilar in Neolithic times, then Sagalassos in Roman period and continuing today with Çanakli is an important component of traditional art worthy of protection.

The continuity of local types of pottery in Çanakli, however, is endangered by socio-economic and socio-cultural features. This article draws attention to the need to protect the fast vanishing local pottery production.
